MonaLisa Touch Q & A
What is MonaLisa Touch?
MonaLisa Touch is a state-of-the-art therapy that uses advanced fractional CO2 laser technology to revitalize the tissues that line the vaginal canal. As a treatment that doesn’t involve surgery or prescription medication, MonaLisa Touch is the safest, gentlest, and most effective way to both treat vaginal atrophy and prevent its aftereffects.
In just a few quick treatments, MonaLisa Touch can:
- Return trophic balance to vaginal tissues
- Normalize vaginal functionality
- Restore pain-free intimacy with your partner
Am I a good candidate for MonaLisa Touch?
MonaLisa Touch laser therapy is designed to treat postmenopausal women who are experiencing vaginal dryness and other vaginal or urinary symptoms brought on by hormone-related changes.
It’s just as effective for women who have gone through natural menopause as it is for women whose menopause was induced with a hysterectomy, and it’s one of the only viable treatment options for women who can’t receive hormone replacement therapy.
Your doctor at HT Family Physicians can use MonaLisa Touch to help address:
- Vaginal burning or itching
- Stress urinary incontinence
- Chronic urinary tract infections
- Painful intercourse
- Vaginal laxity, or relaxed tissues
The treatment may also benefit women who experience long-term vaginal dryness and other symptoms related to hormonal changes following childbirth.
Your doctor can tell you if the treatment is right for you.
What is the MonaLisa treatment like?
A single MonaLisa treatment takes less than five minutes. Your doctor uses a vaginal probe to ease the laser into your vagina, where it emits gentle, painless pulses of laser energy into the vaginal wall. This activates the production of new collagen and helps revitalize the vaginal mucosa.
Many women report noticeable symptom relief after just one treatment and more significant relief with each successive treatment. Most patients need three treatments to see complete results.
Because each procedure is scheduled six weeks apart to give your body’s healing mechanisms enough time to rejuvenate the treated area, the typical treatment course takes 18 weeks to complete.
What can I expect following treatment?
As a painless, non-invasive therapy, MonaLisa Touch has virtually no side effects and doesn’t require any downtime, meaning you can resume most normal activities following each treatment.
It’s still recommended, however, that you refrain from having sexual intercourse for a few days to allow your vaginal tissues ample time to begin healing.
